I am Penny, my dog is a 12 yr old Corgi named Opie and my cat is a 6 yr old gray tabby named Feline (fuh-leen'). I have had Corgis for a lot of years and
love the breed. 2 of the 3 have been rescues, something that I strongly support.
I have been on Craigslist and am getting disgusted at the posts on "Pets". They are "policed" by a bunch of people who seem to be both anti-pet and anti-pet people. So I saw a blurb for this place. I also am not computer-competent and had a hard time figuring out this site.
But the weather is really cold and I find myself inside with time on my hands, thus my love/hate relationship with the computer is looking more attractive! What do people do with their dogs when it's like this? Opie has a heavy coat, but coming from a warmer climate (WA) he goes outside to do his thing and then dashes back inside. Me too. (Well, not exactly, I have indoor plumbing
.)
What does anyone think about "outside dogs"? I see and hear about them up here. It's my opinion that having a dog live outside is cruel and why even have a dog if he isn't part of the family? The concept of "dog house" is foreign. My house is his house. If we go out for a walk or whatever, that's one thing, but when we're done with that, we come back in. When the weather gets warmer, I will put him out in the fenced yard, but not for too long.
Feline is an inside cat, year around. Has never been outside. She is declawed, a practice some people say is cruel. My opinion on that is it's less cruel to cause them pain ONCE than to have to yell or throw something at them throughout their entire lifetime. Not to mention what to do when you're away. Now she can "scratch" anywhere she pleases, happily. I love her and want a good relationship. Opie had his tail docked before I met him; corgis always do. Is that cruel too? I'm not sure how I feel about that.
